Former Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, author of a new book on the energy revolution, will join Mayor Wade Troxell and City Manager Darin Atteberry at a public forum August 24 to discuss America’s energy future and how it relates to the City’s Climate Action Plan.

The event will be 6-8 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, Canyon West Room, 417 W. Magnolia St. The panel discussion will begin at 6 p.m.; an open house on specific Climate Action Plan strategies will follow from 7-8 p.m. along with a book signing event. CSU will sell books at the event.

Seating is limited so reservations are required at www.fcgov.com/climateaction/rsvp. Refreshments will be served.

Ritter, founding director of CSU’s Center for the New Energy Economy, is the author of “Powering Forward: What Everyone Should Know About America’s Energy Revolution,” which addresses changing the world view of energy infrastructure and policy in the face of climate change. During his tenure as Colorado’s 41st governor, he signed 57 laws on clean energy policy.

In March 2015, Fort Collins adopted some of the nation’s most aspirational goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with an immediate goal of reaching 20 percent below 2005 levels by 2020. The community is already halfway to the goal largely through adoption of strategies related to electricity, transportation, natural gas, solid waste and water.

At the open house, City staff will engage the public on various strategies and steps our community could take to reach those goals in the next three to 18 months. For more information on the community’s Climate Action Plan, go to www.fcgov.com/climateaction.
